Commissioner of the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Called on Businesses to Share Opportunities from China’s New Era
On 8 November 2017, Commissioner Xie Feng gave a briefing to representatives of foreign business chambers and multinationals in Hong Kong on the outcomes of the 19th CPC National Congress. As a non-voting participant to the Congress, Commissioner Xie shared with the audience his observations on the significance, outcomes and strategic arrangements of the Party Congress, using the original texts of the report, vivid examples and data. His briefing was conducted in the following eight aspects: new historic juncture, new social change, new thought, new objective for the endeavor, new vision of development, new journey for diplomacy, new policy towards Hong Kong and new opportunities for cooperation. Commissioner Xie called on the chambers and businesses to seize the opportunities brought by the socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the implementation of “one country, two systems” in the new era and the major development strategies such as the Belt and Road and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He encouraged them to have full and faithful understanding of the “one country, two systems” and support this principle, seek more opportunities from the fast development of the mainland and Hong Kong and from their closer integration, and take an active part in the tripartite cooperation among the mainland, Hong Kong and the countries along and relating to the Belt and Road.
A total of 115 representatives from 27 foreign business chambers and multinationals attended the briefing.
The Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s President Lord Edwin Hitti as well as representatives of other chambers and businesses congratulated the Commissioner’s Office on the success of the 19th Party Congress.
They echoed that the Congress opened new chapter in China’s development, and will have a profound impact on the future of the world. Emphasising that business communities in all nations needs to have a careful review of the Report, in particular the major arrangements and their impact on China and world economies, so as to better align with China’s development. It is hoped that business communities will seize the opportunities from China’s development in the new era and from the cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland, and further expand economic cooperation in all areas with China.
Lord Edwin E. Hitti, on behalf of the Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industry expressed readiness to respond to the initiative of the Commissioner’s Office. The ArabCham being based in Hong Kong and oriented towards the Mainland, the Asia-Pacific and the Arab World, will be keen to take part in the Belt & Road and the Greater Bay Area, and enhance tripartite cooperation for a win-win outcome.
