Independence Day is a national holiday in Indonesia commemorating the anniversary of the Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945. It was made a national holiday by then-President Sukarno in 1953.
Independence Day is celebrated on August 17th, the day when the proclaimers of Indonesian independence-Soekarno and Hatta proclaimed the independence of Indonesia from the Dutch and Japanese authorities.
Formally, Indonesians usually celebrates the Independence Day by doing flag ceremonies in schools and public offices. At the Hong Kong SAR of China, many Indonesians celebrated the country’s 74th Independence Day at the Consulate grounds on Saturday.
